Franklin Firecracker Festival still on despite community band cancelation

The Franklin Firecracker Festival is still on as planned for tonight, though there have been some changes.

With the chances of thunderstorms, win, and high heat indexes, the Franklin Community Band has canceled their 5:30 p.m. performance for the festival at the DriveHubler.com Amphitheater. The band is disappointed but had to make the decision, the band said in a Facebook post.

”There’s a certain amount of preparation and set up that has to happen for us to play, along with getting the band in place in Franklin, that we can’t wait until 5:00 [p.m.] to make a decision,” the post said. The band added that they hoped weather would cooperate for the rest of the festival, and that their next performance would be 7 p.m. Aug. 22 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church.

Although the community band performance is not taking place, the rest of the festival appears to be set to continue as scheduled. The Franklin Parks & Recreation Department said in a Facebook post on Tuesday that the festival would still take place as planned.

Here’s the line up for the rest of the night:

  • 7 to 10 p.m. — Blue River Band
  • 5 to 10 p.m. — Food trucks
  • 5:30 to 10 p.m. — Cornett Roofing Beer & Wine Garden
  • 10:10 p.m. — Fireworks

As for the weather, the latest forecast from the National Weather Service as of 2:45 p.m. showed storms likely, but mainly between 7 to 8 p.m. Temperatures will be around 85 degrees at 4 p.m. with a 92 degree heat index and 84 degrees with a 90 degree heat index at 7 p.m. before dropping to 73 degrees with a 75 degree heat index at 10 p.m.
