I-465 northbound lane, ramp closures start Friday

More lane and ramp closures are planned for Interstate 465 as work begins on the northbound lanes this weekend.

Beginning on or after Friday, crews will close I-465 northbound between Interstate 65 and Interstate 70 on the southeast side of Indianapolis for concrete pavement and bridge deck patching work. On weekdays, traffic on I-465 northbound will be reduced to three lanes between I-465/I-70 interchange to 56th Street. On weekends, traffic will be reduced to two lanes, according to an Indiana Department of Transportation news release.

These closures will allow crews to safely complete pavement restoration, bridge deck patching and joint repairs, INDOT officials say.

The following ramps will also be closed starting at the following dates and times:

  • 7 p.m. Friday — Northbound and southbound Emerson Avenue to eastbound I-465; Interstate 74 westbound to northbound I-465
  • 9 p.m. Friday — Northbound and southbound I-65 to northbound/eastbound I-465; eastbound and westbound Washington Street/U.S. 40 to northbound I-465; eastbound and westbound Brookville Road/U.S. 52 to northbound I-465
  • 11 p.m. Friday — Southbound Shadeland Avenue to northbound I-465; Northbound Shadeland Ave. to northbound I-465
  • 4 a.m. Saturday — Southeastern Avenue/Old U.S. 421 to northbound I-465

Lane and ramp closures are expected to be removed by 6 a.m. Aug. 5, INDOT officials say.

The official detour for this work is I-65 northbound to I-70 eastbound back to I-465 northbound. Motorists are also reminded to visit 511in.org to map their route, according to the news release.

This is the second of six parts for I-465 restoration work between I-65 and U.S. 31 on the east side of Indianapolis. This work is expected to be complete in spring 2025, INDOT officials say.

Officials remind drivers to consider worker safety by slowing down, using caution and avoiding distractions when traveling in and near work zones. All work is weather-dependent and schedules are subject to change.
