Indianapolis to host global semiconductor conference

The first semiconductor-focused conference and trade show of its kind in the Midwest will convene industry leaders and public officials in Indianapolis in 2025, the governor and event host announced Tuesday at SEMICON West 2024 in San Francisco.

The SEMIEXPO In The Heartland is scheduled for April 1-2, 2025, at the Indiana Convention Center. SEMI Americas, an international semiconductor member association and part of Semiconductor Equipment and Materials International, will host the conference as part of its annual circuit.

The announcement comes as the state continues to invest heavily in the semiconductors industry.

“Bringing the semiconductor industry to the Midwest for this inaugural event will further showcase our advanced manufacturing leadership and position Hoosiers and our shared economy for even more industrial growth opportunities,” Gov. Eric Holcomb said in a news release.

The conference focus on bolstering “smart manufacturing and smart mobility,” meaning microelectronics innovation and deployment, toward a goal of $1 trillion in national annual semiconductor revenue, according to SEMI Americas. The goal is to highlight examples of innovative methods and technologies as well as creating opportunities for collaboration and industry growth.

“With growing activity for both automotive electronics and smart manufacturing in the Midwestern region, SEMIEXPO In The Heartland will provide a key opportunity for collaboration,” SEMI Americas President Joe Stockunas said in the release. “These are important end markets that are advancing the semiconductor industry on the path to $1 trillion in annual revenue, and we’re excited to kick off our inaugural event in Indianapolis.”

The Indiana Economic Development Corp., Applied Research Institute, Purdue University and Visit Indy will serve as event partners and host meetings in conjunction with the event.

Indiana has attracted seven semiconductor companies to the state since 2022, secured a federal tech hub designation for microelectronics, and broke ground on a 10-acre public-private microelectronics hub.

SEMI conducts numerous events and annual expositions worldwide, including SEMICON West, SEMICON Taiwan and SEMICON Europa.
