Jon W. Taylor

WHITELAND, IN.

Jon W. Taylor, 76, of Whiteland, IN and lifelong farmer of Pleasant and Clark Townships in Johnson County, IN passed away Sunday, July 7, 2024, at the family farm surrounded by his loving family.

He was born March 8, 1948, in Franklin, IN to Leo and Grace M. (Speas) Taylor. He married Eloise L. (Sievertson) Taylor on August 22, 1971, at Hopewell Presbyterian Church in Franklin, IN, she survives.

Jon was a 1966 graduate of Whiteland Community High School where he was a member of the Future Farmers of America and was a 10-year 4-H Member. He also attended Purdue University and was a United States Army Veteran.

Jon was a lifelong farmer of Pleasant and Clark Townships in Johnson County. Starting in high school, he started his farmers market growing and selling sweet corn, which evolved into Taylor’s Farm Market on Worthsville Road and Interstate 65, which he operated with his family, and was known for the tomatoes.

Jon was especially loyal to his International Harvester Farmall Machinery that he farmed with.

He was a former member of Hopewell Presbyterian Church, a current member of Rocklane Christian Church where he was a member of the Faith Builder Sunday School class, a member of Jubilee Masonic Lodge #746 in Whiteland, IN, the Whiteland Baseball Club, the Rocklane Riders Motorcycle Club, and a former member of the Whiteland Young Farmers. Jon was an avid sports fan and especially Whiteland Athletics.

Jon never met a stranger and enjoyed kidding people.

Survivors include his wife Eloise (Sievertson) Taylor of Whiteland, IN, a daughter Marcy R. Wachstetter (Norman) of Foosland, IL, a son Marc Taylor (Jenny) of Greenwood, IN, seven grandchildren Gracie Taylor, Oliver Taylor, Elijah Taylor, Audrey Taylor, Sam Wachstetter, Jack Wachstetter and Cole Wachstetter, his sister Jenny Baker (Jim) of Dayton, OH, several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents Leo and Grace M. (Speas) Taylor.

Pastor Seth Amerine will conduct a service on Thursday, July 11, 2024, at 10AM at Rocklane Christian Church, 4430 East Rocklane Road, in Greenwood, IN. Friends may call Wednesday, July 10, 2024, from 3PM until 8PM and Thursday, July 11, 2024, from 9:00 AM until service time at the church. Burial will follow the service at Hopewell Cemetery in Franklin, IN with military honors conducted by the United States Army Honor Guard and Franklin American Legion Post 205 Honor Guard.
