Joan E. Sheppard (King)

Joan E. Sheppard (King), 91, passed away Friday morning, July 26, 2024. She was a resident of Greenwood, and formerly of Indianapolis.

She was born in Cincinnati, Ohio on April 26, 1933. She was preceded in death by her parents Charles and Jean Thompson, husband James King (1981), Robert Sheppard (1994), and daughter, Cynthia Pasteur (2001).

She is survived by her daughter, Susan McQuaid; son, James (Dawn) King; step-daughter Robbin (Dave) Leonard; and step-son Robert (Regina) Sheppard. Joan is grandmother to Jennifer Pasteur, Jacqueline (Nick) Lee, Janelle (Steve) Taylor, Karsey King, Jimmy King, Kenzie King, Denver McQuaid, Trent Sheppard, and Tate Sheppard. She is also great-grandmother to Bryson Taylor, Kaelyn Taylor, Jocelynn Lee, Nola Lee, and Imogene Sheppard.

Joan was a graduate of St. Mary High School in Cincinnati, and attended Edgecliff College. She loved working as a radiation tech and dental assistant. Later in life, after raising her family in Indianapolis, she became a teacher’s aide for Rise Special Services.

She was a charter member of St. Barnabas Church in the early 1960’s, where she was on the Bereavement and Decorating Committees.

She loved being active in exercise at the Greenwood Community Center, playing golf, gardening, line dancing, and attending grandchildren’s sporting events. But most of all she was thankful to God for being blessed with a loving family and friends.

Visitation will take place from 10-12 Noon, Wednesday, July 31, at St. Barnabas Catholic Church, 8300 Rahke Road, Indianapolis. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 12 Noon at the church. She will be laid to rest at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens. A Celebration of Life gathering will follow at 2PM at Dye’s Walk Country Club, 2080 S. State Road 135, Greenwood.
