Former Johnson County fair queen to speak at Indiana State Fair event

Former Johnson County Fair Queen and Indiana FFA southern region vice president Jenna Kelsay will be part of a conversation on careers in agriculture at the Indiana State Fair.

Indiana Humanities will be holding a conversation on youth choosing to pursue careers in agriculture and those taking unconventional paths to careers in the food system from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Aug. 16 at the Normandy Barn at the Indiana State Fair, 1202 E. 38th St., Indianapolis. The event, called We Are the Future of Food, is a special Unearthed-themed INconversation presented by Indiana’s Family of Farmers and part of Food for Thought 2024.

Unearthed is a multi-year initiative from Indiana Humanities, an organization that facilitates programs encouraging Hoosiers to think, read and talk. Unearthed encourages Hoosiers to “discover and discuss their relationships with the natural world” and learn about the effects Hoosiers have on the environment and the effects the environment has on Hoosiers.

We Are the Future of Food will be moderated by Heather Tallman, marketing director of Fischer Farms. Alongside Kelsay, other speakers include Jayde Grisham, urban agriculture educator with Purdue Extension Marion County, and Sierra Nuckols, food ways career navigator at Flanner House, president of the Community Food Access Coalition and founder of the Community Food Box Project.

Doors open at 1:30 p.m. and the event starts at 2 p.m.
