Joan Lee Elliot

Joan Lee (Crain) Elliot, age 93, passed away peacefully on Friday evening, July 26, 2024 at Avalon Senior Living in Indianapolis. She was a resident of Greenwood.

Joan was born May 12, 1931 in St. Louis, MO to her parents, the late Hubert D. and Margaret M. (Goodnow) Crain. She was a 1949 graduate of Cleveland High School in St. Louis, MO and went on to receive an Associate’s Degree in Home Economic from William Woods University in Fulton, MO in 1951. Joan later earned a Bachelor’s Degree in General Studies from Indiana University in 1980. She worked for KSD -TV &Radio in St. Louis for several years.

Joan was a member of the Morgantown United Methodist Church and a former member &past president of the PTA in Roanoke, VA. Other memberships include, Auxiliary member of the F.O.P. Chapter 86, where she held the office of Indiana State Clerk, Hand Weavers Guild of America, Indy Weavers, Country Side Spinners &Weavers and the Indianapolis Scottish Rite. Joan was also very instrumental through the years raising campaign funds for several Republican candidates. Her interests included computers, yarn spinning, weaving and design work. Joan authored a handbook on how to organize and manage a workshop with spinning &weaving. She was a fan of Indiana University athletics.

Joan was preceded in death on April 2, 2021 by her loving husband of 64 years, James G. “Jerry” Elliot, whom she married on September 1, 1956.

Joan is survived by her sons, James G. “Jim” (Jackie) Elliot, Jr. and Jeffrey C. (Kelli Andersen) Elliot, both of Indianapolis; brother, Hubert D. Crain of Minnetonka, MN; grandchildren, Anthony B. (Rachel) Elliot of Santa Cruz, CA, Zachary P. (Amanda) Elliot of Indianapolis, Andrew J. (Nick McNeely) Elliot of Indianapolis and Anna Beth (Sean) Murphy of Trafalgar and Hope (Patrick Coleman) Elliot of Indianapolis; great grandchildren, Harry and Olivia Elliot of Santa Cruz, CA, Jack and Charlotte Elliot of Indianapolis and Ivan, Wyatt &Ellie Murphy of Trafalgar.

Rev. Ezechiel Habwawihe and family friend, Ken Barker will conduct a Celebration of Life Service at 7 p.m. on Thursday, August 15 at Meredith-Clark Funeral Home Cremation &Personalization Center, 179 E. Mulberry Street in Morgantown. A visitation will be held from 5 p.m. until service time on Thursday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent in memory of Joan to the Donor’s charity of choice.
