Police searching for ex-Greenwood man convicted of sex crime

Law enforcement is searching for a former Greenwood man recently convicted of a sex crime.

David Bailey, 37, is at-large after failing to appear in court. He was convicted of sexual misconduct with a minor as a Level 4 felony by a jury on Wednesday, and faces up to 12 years in prison.

The investigation conducted by the Greenwood Police Department began two years earlier in August 2022 after Bailey was reported to have sexually abused a child from 2019 until 2021. Evidence was presented by the Johnson County Prosecutor’s Office on Wednesday and the jurors found Bailey guilty as charged after only 37 minutes of deliberations, according to the Johnson County Prosecutor’s Office.

Bailey failed to appear in court for the trial, and a no bond warrant was issued by Johnson Superior Court 3 Judge Douglas Cummins. Bailey is not believed to be armed but as an “at-large, convicted felon,” he should be approached only by law enforcement officers, prosecutors say.

Anyone with knowledge of Bailey’s whereabouts is encouraged to contact the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office by calling or 911 or the crime tip line at 317-346-4654.

“I hope anyone who knows where Bailey is will assist Sheriff Duane Burgess and his team in bringing this convicted sex offender to justice,” Prosecutor Lance Hamner said in a statement Saturday.
