Pedestrian killed on I-65 in Indianapolis

A pedestrian died after being struck on Interstate 65 in Indianapolis.

Just before 9 a.m. Monday Indiana State Police Dispatchers began receiving 911 calls about a serious crash involving a pedestrian on Interstate 65 near the 107 mile marker. When first responders from Indianapolis police and firefighters arrived they located an adult male unresponsive lying in the roadway. The man was pronounced deceased at the scene, according to Indiana State Police.

A preliminary investigation at the scene determined the man was trying to run across the interstate. Several vehicles had to take evasive action to avoid hitting the man. The driver of a Kia SUV struck the man who was in the roadway.

That driver remained on scene and per Indiana State Law submitted to a blood draw. For the driver, neither alcohol nor drugs are expected to be a factor in this crash, ISP reported in a news release.

There were no disabled vehicles in the area and investigators are not sure where the man was coming from or going, ISP officials said.
