Mark C Strother

GREENWOOD

Mark Strother, 71, passed away August 13th, 2024, in Greenwood, IN.

Mark was a world builder, an orator of integrity, and an optimistic believer in humanity’s goodwill. He was a Hoosier in his heart, with a deep pride of his family, his home, and what it means to be a true individual in deep connection with our shared histories.

He earned a Bachelor of Science in Speech, and a Masters in Theater, Radio, and Television from Ball State University, a university with proud family ties. He was a lifelong student, a professor, a writer, a photographer, a musician, a traveler, a man of distinguished taste, a true artist, and above all he was a father who gave his kids the world. He was patient, and forgiving, and his love is an everlasting gift.

He taught Speech and Theater Appreciation at Ivy Tech Community College for the last 20 years, where he encouraged critical thinking and self-expression. He believed it was important for students to see live theater and received grants that funded field trips for students to attend live performances and plays in the local Indianapolis community.

His father Edward Strother was his hero, and he regarded his mother Jeanne Strother as the radical saint of strength & beauty that she was. He loved and deeply respected both his brother Michael Strother, and his sister Jennifer Strother.

Surviving are his son, David Strother; daughter, Biz (Elizabeth) Strother; brother, Michael Strother (wife, Hisako Sakimoto Strother); and niece Yukiko Jeanne Strother.

A memorial in celebration of Mark Strother’s life will be held on Saturday, October 19th, 2024, between 5-7pm, at the Cabaret Room in the Indianapolis Repertory Theater, 140 W. Washington Street, Indianapolis, IN.

Final Care entrusted to Wilson St. Pierre Family Funeral & Cremation Services 481 W. Main St., Greenwood, IN 46142.
