Greenwood’s Nuhfer wins silver

Grace Nuhfer, a 2021 Greenwood graduate who now swims at the University of Akron, earned a silver medal in the 100-meter butterfly Thursday in her first event at the 2024 Paralympic Games in Paris. Nuhfer was the top seed coming out of the preliminaries with a time of 1:03.95 and came back with a 1:03.88 in the final, but she finished just behind reigning Paralympic champion and world record holder Carlotta Gilli of Italy, who hit the wall in 1:03.27.

Nuhfer will swim four individual events in Paris, with her last one the 200 individual medley on Tuesday. Look for more on her first Paralympic experience in the Daily Journal next week.

Grizzly Cubs keep rolling

Rose Mahin and Addie Martin combined for 40 kills as Franklin maintained its perfect start to the season with a 16-25, 25-17, 25-22, 25-23 triumph over Trinity Lutheran on Thursday. Karlin Burton had a career-best 46 assists for the Grizzly Cubs (9-0), while Kate Pinnick totaled 22 digs.

Trojans sweep Quakers

Center Grove was a 25-17, 25-15, 25-14 winner over Plainfield on Thursday. The victory improved the Trojans to 6-2 on the season.

Boys soccer

Franklin comes up short

Franklin suffered a 4-1 setback at Decatur Central on Thursday. Matt Payne scored the lone goal for the Grizzly Cubs (0-4-1, 0-2 Mid-State) off an assist from Gavin Fugate.
