Several high school football games suspended due to storm

The radar south of Indianapolis looked clean on Friday night — until it didn’t.

A pop-up storm threw Week 2 of the high school football season into a blender, forcing the suspension of several games involving local teams. Only Greenwood Christian (a 24-14 winner over Covenant Christian) and Edinburgh (which lost to Cloverdale, 62-0) made it to the finish line.

Center Grove’s home game against Fort Wayne Carroll was halted just before the start of the second half and never resumed. Following a long delay, the decision was made to call the game and award the Trojans a 28-14 victory.

A status update on the other games involving local teams:

• Indian Creek and Greenwood will resume at 10 a.m. Saturday with 8:04 remaining in the fourth quarter. The Braves lead 35-26, with the host Woodmen set to line up for a point after when play resumes.

• Franklin’s home game against Mt. Vernon will pick back up at noon Saturday with 7:49 left in regulation and the Grizzly Cubs ahead, 21-14.

• Whiteland will return to Kokomo to play the second half beginning at 1 p.m. Saturday. The teams are tied at the break, 14-14.

• Roncalli’s game with Franklin Central was interrupted just after the second-half kickoff with the Royals holding a 13-10 lead. That game will resume at 3 p.m. Saturday.
