Girl found dead in Greenwood pond after brief search

A girl was found dead in a drainage pond after being reported missing in a Greenwood neighborhood.

At around 9:14 p.m. Sunday, the Greenwood Fire Department was dispatched to the 800 block of Padre Lane in the Shiloh Run neighborhood for a report of a missing 4-year-old female. Just one minute later, a Greenwood Police officer located the child in a body of water behind a nearby residence, according to a press release from Greenwood Fire.

The officer immediately entered the water and removed the child from the water. Once out of the water officers immediately started CPR, the release says.

At 9:18 p.m. Greenwood Fire took over patient care and transported the girl to a local hospital where she was pronounced deceased, fire officials say.

Initial reports stated that she was in town visiting family. She had been missing for around 60 minutes when officials were notified, with multiple family members actively looking for her prior to calling 911. It is unknown what drew the child to the water and the exact circumstances leading up to her entering the body of water, according to Greenwood Fire.
