Ivy Tech offering workshop on Indiana river stewardship

Ivy Tech Community College and the Indiana Department of Environmental Management will host a free Hoosier Riverwatch workshop Sept. 7, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Ivy Tech’s Moravec Hall, 4475 Central Ave., Columbus. The workshop is open to the public. Participants must be age 18 and older.

Hoosier Riverwatch is a program that certifies Indiana citizens to become active stewards of the state’s water resources through watershed education, water monitoring, and clean-up activities. Certified individuals can collect water quality data and submit it to a state database for water chemistry and insect community analysis.

Participants will conduct a practice collection on the Flatrock River at Owen’s Bend Park. Participants must provide their own transportation. Water boots will be supplied if needed.

RSVPs are required and the number of participants is limited. To RSVP, or for more information, contact Dr. Tom Sobat at [email protected].
