Johnson County Sheriff’s Office Charity Ride rolls out Sept. 14

The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office is holding its 19th annual Charity Ride this month.

The ride will go kick-stands up at 10 a.m. Sept. 14 from Grace Assembly of God, 6822 U.S. 31 South, Whiteland. The ride ends at the Johnson County FFA Center, 6595 S. County Road 125 West, Trafalgar. The ride will stop in between at Fletcher Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep, Mann’s Harley-Davidson and House of Thunder.

People can register on the day starting at 8 a.m. or in advance online at johnsoncountysheriff.com/CHARITYRIDE/. The entry fee is $40 per single rider and $20 extra per additional rider.

The ride was founded by former Sheriff Terry McLaughlin and continued under former Sheriff Doug Cox and current Sheriff Duane Burgess. The ride, a registered 5(01)c(3), gives out donations to various Johnson County nonprofits based on current needs in the community, according to the sheriff’s office.

Over the years the charity ride has given money to the Boys and Girls Club of Johnson County, ASSIST Indiana, Girls. Inc., United Way of Johnson County, Johnson County Senior Services, KIC-IT, Johnson County Special Olympics, Johnson County Habitat for Humanity, Johnson County Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 154 (Shop with a Cop) and other youth programs.

This year the ride will additionally support the Proctor Park memorial to first responders and U.S. military in remembrance of Indiana State Trooper Aaron Smith and Johnson County Deputy Tim Guyer.
