College notebook: Gibson helps Vincennes men’s golf to tourney win

Vincennes University freshman and former Franklin golfer Kadin Gibson placed second individually, losing to teammate Parker Steininger in a playoff, as the team won its own fall invitational. Gibson shot 70 the opening round, following with a second-day 72.

Franklin

Jacksonville rjunior outside hitter Cami Kelsay helped her squad win two of three matches at Florida A&M’s tournament, totaling 25 kills, 16 digs and four service aces.

Freshman middle blocker Scarlett Kimbrell took part in two matches for Florida Tech volleyball, finishing with four kills and a dig as the team won all four of its matches at the Redderson Invitational.

Hanover’s 3-0 volleyball triumph over Bethany College included one kill and a block from freshman outside hitter Brooklyn York.

Junior golfer Ava Ray tied for 16th individually for the University of Indianapolis women’s golf team in its sixth-place performance at the 16-team Midwest Ladies Collegiate.

Center Grove

Butler senior middle blocker Grace Boggess helped Butler volleyball sweep a home-and-home series with Indiana State, totaling 14 kills and three digs over the two matches.

Winthrop defensive specialist Rylie McMahen finished with three digs and an assist in the team’s win over Lafayette at the VCU Invitational. The senior had 12 digs and two assists in a 3-0 loss to the host Rams.

Ball State junior outside hitter Katie Egenolf had a kill and three digs in the Cardinals’ 3-0 loss to Kentucky.

Sophomore receiver Owen Wright made two catches for 35 yards for Franklin College football in its 45-7 loss at Ohio Northern.

Indiana football blasted visiting Western Illinois, 77-3, a result that included quarterback Tayven Jackson completing all three of his passes for 104 yards and a touchdown. Teammate Daniel Weems carried the football four times for 19 yards.

Hillsdale College defensive back Matt Soderdahl made four tackles in a 42-16 home loss to the University of Indianapolis.

Ohio State defensive end Caden Curry made a tackle in the Buckeyes’ 56-0 victory over visiting Western Michigan.

St. Francis running back Drew Wheat carried once for a yard, and returned a kickoff for 18 yards in the team’s 52-14 loss to Indiana Wesleyan. For the victorious Wildcats, sophomore punter Nolan Foley averaged 30 yards on four attempts, placing one inside the 20-yard line.

Butler junior linebacker Brayton Spetter was credited with a tackle in a 19-17 victory at Murray State.

Senior Brandon Heffner and junior Luke Beetz finished third and tied for 15th, respectively, as Marian men’s golf was runner-up at the Bob Rohrman Invite at Purdue. In the women’s event, sophomore Sage Parsetich was 11th to help Indiana Wesleyan place third in the team standings.

Grace College freshman Camille Short helped her team place second at the Battle at Blackthorn tournament. Short tied for second individually, and her second-round 73 was the second-lowest score by a freshman in program history.

Freshman Lexi Stuart tied for 25th individually as the UIndy women’s golf squad placed sixth of 16 teams at the Midwest Ladies Collegiate.

Freshman Lauren Dick won her match at No. 2 doubles, 6-1, to help Indiana Wesleyan women’s tennis score a 7-0 decision over Mt. Vernon Nazarene.

Rose-Hulman freshman Emerson Donaldson won her No. 2 singles match, 6-0, 6-3, and lost at No. 1 doubles match, 6-4, in the women’s tennis team’s 7-2 loss to Illinois College.

Senior goalkeeper Ian Rowe made 11 saves for Franklin College men’s soccer in its 1-1 tie with Illinois Tech. He had seven saves in the Grizzlies’ 2-0 loss to Principia.

Indian Creek

Indiana Wesleyan sophomore quarterback Arjun Lothe was 2 of 2 through the air for 19 yards as the Wildcats topped visiting St. Francis, 52-14.

Greenwood

Ethan Gray won his match at No. 1 doubles, 6-1, as Indiana Wesleyan men’s tennis blanked Mount Vernon Nazarene, 7-0.

Manchester women’s volleyball lost to Huntington, 3-0, despite nine kills and eight digs from fifth-year senior Joy Maze.

Hanover College junior Conner Watson placed 117th in a time of 28 minutes, 1.30 seconds to help the men’s cross country team finish 13th of 21 teams at the Grizzly Invite in Shelbyville.

Greenwood Christian

Freshman kicker Charlie Overton averaged 53.5 yards on his two kickoffs for Franklin College football in its 45-7 loss at Ohio Northern.

Butler junior linebacker Tyson Garrett, a Greenwood resident, made four tackles 19-17 victory at Murray State.
