Indiana voter registration deadline approaching

Eligible residents have a little less than a month to register to vote for this year’s presidential election.

Hoosiers have until Oct. 7 to register to vote in the Nov. 5 general election. Under Indiana law, legal adults who are U.S. citizens are eligible to vote as long as they meet certain criteria.

To register, a resident must:

  • be a U.S. citizen and an Indiana resident;
  • have resided in their voting precinct at least 30 days before the next election;
  • be at least 18 years old on the day of the election;
  • not currently be in prison after being convicted of a crime.

Residents can go online to register at indianavoters.in.gov by 11:59 p.m. Oct. 7. Johnson County residents can also register in person by visiting the county voter registration office at the Johnson County Courthouse, 5 E. Jefferson St., Franklin, before 4:30 p.m. Oct. 7, or at any license branch.

Those who are already registered are encouraged to check their registrations before voting at indianavoters.in.gov. Those who register at license branches should confirm with Johnson County Voter Registration that their information was sent over properly.

The deadline to turn in mail-in absentee ballot applications is 11:59 p.m. Oct. 24. Voters can apply online at indianavoters.in.gov or in person at Johnson County Voter Registration.
