James M. Dickinson

GREENWOOD

Passed away September 10, 2024 in Greenwood.

Jimbo was born August 7, 1932 in a log cabin west of Trafalgar. He was the 2nd son born to Ralph and Bessie (Cash) Dickinson. He attended Union School and graduated Class of 1959.

Siblings included Betty (Herb) Lewis, Ed (Nancy) Dickinson, Sarah (Verlin) Long, and Nancy (Herb) Lewis. Jim was born a twin to Sarah with him being older. That was a bond that lasted their whole lives. Upon graduating, Jim was drafted into the Army, December 1952. He was stationed in Maryland with the responsibility of guarding Washington DC during the Korean War. When Honorably Discharged in December 1954, his rank was as Sargent.

In June of 1954, he married Marcella Reynolds. It was a double wedding—Sarah and Verlin got married June 5th. They all were married at Bluff Creek Christian Church in Greenwood.

James served as a Deacon at Christian Chapel Church where he was a member.

Jimbo drove a semi all his life. After discharge from Army, he started driving for George Herring hauling crops. Then in 1963, he started at McClean’s Trucking in Indianapolis. When McClean’s shut down in 1987, Jimbo started closer to home at Roy Umbarger &Sons until his retirement in 2011.

James and Marcella had 4 children: Rebecca (Steve) Wilcox, Bonnie (Steve) Cramer, Jim E.(Sara) Dickinson, and Kathy (Danny) Witt.

James enjoyed watching all Indiana sports teams play. James owned a 1963 Harley Davidson motorcycle that was his pride and joy. His property was always kept spotless. The yard had to be mowed to his specifications. There was an order that was always followed.

James’s grandkids: Christopher, Thaddeus, Bob, Bill, Ashley, Brian, Alison, and Charlie. He will be remembered by his numerous great grand children, nieces and nephews.

Services for James are at Jessen Funeral Home in Whiteland on Monday 11-1 with burial service to immediately follow at First Mt. Pleasant Cemetery on 44 west of Franklin.
