Here’s what’s going on with I-69 the week of Sept. 17

The new westbound Interstate 465 bridge over the White River is on track to finish this fall as the I-69 Finish Line project nears completion.

Indiana Department of Transportation officials say the bridge, a major component of the I-69 Finish Line project, is one of the final structures to be poured before westbound traffic can shift to its final configuration. Construction of the bridge substructure — foundations, piers and beams — is complete, and the about 900-foot bridge deck is nearly complete, according to an INDOT update.

Construction crews have approximately 50% of the concrete bridge deck poured, with remaining pours happening through the end of September. Once the final concrete pour is complete, there will be approximately 8,000 cubic yards of concrete in total on this bridge, INDOT officials say.

Elsewhere on Interstate 465, one westbound lane between Interstate 65 and Harding Street will be restricted nightly between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. through Friday for construction vehicle access to and from the site. One westbound lane between Interstate 70 and Kentucky Avenue will be restricted nightly between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. through Friday for median barrier wall construction, cleanup and paving activities, according to INDOT.

Drivers should expect double-lane closures and 20-minute stops on westbound I-465 near the White River Bridge from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Friday for overhead sign structure placement. This sign structure will be the third largest on the I-69 Finish Line project, INDOT officials say.

INDOT officials are also reminding drivers of past closures that remain in effect.

The entrance and exit ramps on the east side of Harding Street at I-465 are closed. These closures are expected through mid-October for ramp reconstruction, according to INDOT.

The westbound I-465 exit ramp to Mann Road (Exit 7) will remain closed until early October for pavement reconstruction. Motorists needing to access Mann Road from westbound I-465 should exit at Kentucky Avenue/State Road 67 (Exit 8), officials say.

The southbound U.S. 31/East Street entrance ramp to westbound I-465 remains closed into late 2024 as well.

As for I-69, INDOT is reminding drivers that Southport Road over I-69 will be restricted to a single lane in each direction, eastbound and westbound, nightly between 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. from Tuesday through Friday for traffic signal modifications. This work will improve signal timing once complete, officials say.

Other reminders include speed limit changes. The speed limit along I-69 between State Road 144 and Fairview Road is now 55 mph in Johnson County. However, in Johnson and Marion Counties, speed limits are still reduced throughout most of the I-69 Finish Line corridor. Drivers should follow all posted speed limits as construction work continues through the remainder of 2024, officials say.

All construction work is weather-dependent. More information can be found by going to i69finishline.com.
