Here’s what’s going on with I-69 the week of Sept. 24

Work continues on the southside as construction crews work to complete the I-69 Finish line project.

First, the entrance and exit ramps on the east side of Harding Street at Interstate 465 are now open. In mid-October, however, the eastbound I-465 exit ramp to Harding Street and the westbound I-465 entrance ramp from Harding Street will close for up to 60 days, according to the Indiana Department of Transportation.

The westbound I-465 exit ramp to Mann Road (Exit 7) is expected to open on or after Wednesday. However, drivers should expect a nightly single-lane closure on westbound I-465 between Interstate 69/I-465 and Mann Road Tuesday and Wednesday from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. for bridge work, INDOT officials say.

Elsewhere on Interstate 465, drivers should expect double-lane closures and 20-minute stops on westbound I-465 between Interstate 65 and U.S. 31/East Street on Friday from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. for bridge beam delivery. The southbound U.S. 31/East Street entrance ramp to westbound I-465 remains closed into late 2024, officials say.

Double-lane closures and 20-minute stops are also planned on westbound and eastbound I-465 between Mann Road and Interstate 70 starting at 9 p.m. Friday through 5 a.m. Monday for milling, paving and lane-shift operations. Drivers should be aware that construction traffic will be entering and exiting the construction site, so travel delays are expected. It is important to drive safely and stay alert while traveling through this section of I-465, according to INDOT.

As for I-69, mowing crews will be in the right-of-way this week along the interstate between State Road 144 and Fairview Road for fall maintenance and cleanup. Drivers should stay alert when driving this section of I-69, officials say.

A right-lane restriction on southbound I-69 between County Line Road and Fairview Road is expected between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. through Friday for outside shoulder paving, according to INDOT.

Southport Road over I-69 will be restricted to a single lane in each direction, eastbound and westbound, between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. through Friday for traffic-signal modifications. This work will improve signal timing, officials say.

INDOT is also reminding drivers that the speed limit along I-69 between State Road 144 and Fairview Road is now 55 mph in Johnson County. However, in Johnson and Marion Counties, speed limits are still reduced throughout most of the I-69 Finish Line corridor. Drivers should follow all posted speed limits as construction work continues through the remainder of 2024, officials say.
