Local Krogers to collect food donations Saturday

Local Kroger stores are working to “pack” local food pantries this weekend.

Kroger, Gleaners Food Bank, volunteers from local food pantries, and members of several communities will fight hunger Saturday with the “Pack the Local Pantries” campaign.

For six hours on Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., volunteers will gather to collect customer contributions for nearby food pantries at three local Kroger stores:

  • 970 N. Morton St., Franklin
  • 2200 Independence Drive, Greenwood
  • 596 N. State Road 135, Greenwood

Participating pantries have many of the same food needs, a news release from Kroger said. Products commonly desired to replenish their shelves include:

  • Canned fruit and vegetables
  • Canned meats
  • Canned fish
  • Canned fruit and vegetables
  • Canned soups
  • Oatmeal
  • Pasta and canned spaghetti sauce
  • Peanut butter
  • Shelf-stable milk

With donations down and demand up, food drive organizers hope Kroger customers provide enough donations on Saturday to help refill pantry shelves and restore their ability to support central and southern Indiana families.
