Threat against Franklin Community High School prompts police investigation

The Franklin Police Department and district officials are investigating a threat against Franklin High School by a juvenile that was made Tuesday afternoon.

Police cannot determine how credible the threat is until the investigation is complete. However, the suspect is no longer allowed on school property, said Kirby Cochran, Franklin’s police chief.

Out of an abundance of caution, there was an extra police presence at the high school on Wednesday, he said.

Detectives were still actively investigating the situation Wednesday morning and charges will be forwarded to the prosecutor’s office for review.

“We will always treat every threat [the same] for obvious safety reasons,” Cochran said. “We treat all threats as credible until we deem otherwise through a thorough investigation.”

Franklin Police commended the efforts of a student who reported the threat and provided detailed information, they said in a Facebook post. Anyone with information about the situation is encouraged to contact school officials or the Franklin Police Department.
