College notebook: Wright a big factor in Grizzlies’ first win

Franklin College sophomore wide receiver Owen Wright, a Center Grove graduate, made five catches for 87 yards and a touchdown to help the Grizzlies notch their first win of the season, a 27-14 decision over visiting Ohio Wesleyan.

Wright also returned a punt for seven yards.

Center Grove

Freshman Lauren Dick won her match at No. 6 singles 6-0, 6-2, but came up short in her No. 3 doubles match, 7-5, as Indiana Wesleyan women’s tennis downed Spring Arbor.

IU Indy men’s golfer Brady Schier, a sophomore, tied for 48th individually as the Jaguars placed second of nine teams at the Tom Tontimonia Invitational.

Freshman golfer Lexi Stuart tied for 50th place for the University of Indianapolis women’s team as it finished 10th out of 18 teams at the William Beall Fall Classic.

Grace College freshman Camille Short established a new 36-hole school standard with a 145 to help the Lancers win the Battle at Stonehenge.

The Marian men’s golf squad won the OUAZ Invitational, an effort that included junior Luke Beetz with a three-round score of 221 and senior Brandon Heffner carding a total of 225.

Butler linebacker Brayton Spetter recorded two tackles in the Bulldogs’ 63-0 romp over visiting Virginia-Lynchburg.

Junior defensive back Matt Soderdahl made three tackles for Hillsdale in its 28-21 loss at Findlay. Teammate Garrett Keith, a junior tight end, made one catch for four yards.

Senior Grace Boggess totaled 10 kills for Butler’s volleyball team in losses against DePaul and Xavier.

Franklin

UIndy women’s soccer blanked William Jewell, 6-0, getting an assist and two shots on goal from forward Stephanie Brady.

Marian senior tight end Drew Byerly made three catches for a total of 20 yards in helping the Knights remain undefeated with a 35-34 overtime win over Taylor.

Cami Kelsay totaled 10 kills and 15 digs as Jacksonville volleyball split home matches against North Alabama and North Florida.

Hanover College freshman outside hitter Brooklyn York had two kills and a dig in a four-set loss at Ohio Northern.

Vincennes University men’s golf competed in the Swan Lake Preview, with freshman Kadin Gibson placing 15th individually with scores of 75 and 72.

The University of Indianapolis women’s golf team competed in the William Beall Fall Classic, with junior Ava Ray shooting scores of 76, 81 and 75 to finish tied for 38th individually.

Ellie Beavins placed 94th individually after shooting scores of 80, 82 and 82 as Taylor women’s golf finished 15th at the Butler Invitational.

Indian Creek

Grace College men’s golfer Braxton Christie placed third overall to help the Lancers place fourth in the seven-team Battle at Stonehenge. His second-round score of 68 was the third-lowest in program history.

Sophomore quarterback Arjun Lothe completed all three of his pass attempts for a total of 17 yards in Indiana Wesleyan’s 38-3 victory at St. Francis (Illinois).

Greenwood

Senior Ethan Gray lost at No. 2 singles 6-4, 6-4, and at No. 1 doubles, 6-3, as Indiana Wesleyan men’s tennis lost to Spring Arbor.

Fifth-year senior Joy Maze had nine kills, seven digs and seven service aces for Manchester volleyball in its three-set victory over visiting Westminster College.

Edinburgh

Redshirt sophomore Riley Palmeter made one catch for nine yards as Marian football scored a 35-34 overtime victory over Taylor.

Greenwood Christian

Franklin College kicker Charlie Overton averaged 44.8 yards on his six kickoffs in the Grizzlies’ 27-14 victory over Ohio Wesleyan.
