Steven E. Ellison

Steven E. Ellison, 70, of Edinburgh, IN, passed away on Wednesday, October 2, 2024, at his home. Steve was born on October 24, 1953, to Earl K. Ellison and Ruth Miller Ellison. He married Beverly Ellis on September 8, 2017.

A proud graduate of Columbus High School, Steve’s commitment to his community and country was evident early on. His dedication led him to enlist in the United States Air Force, where he served with distinction in Germany. His sense of duty remained steadfast as he continued his service in the Indiana National Guard. When called upon, Steve reactivated in the United States Army and served honorably in the Middle East, demonstrating a level of bravery and patriotism that inspired all who knew him.

Steve’s involvement with veteran associations such as the American Legion and VFW was a testament to his enduring camaraderie with fellow service members. These organizations not only benefited from his dedication but also provided a platform for him to continue making a difference in the lives of veterans and their families. He was also a member of the Moose Lodge, Elks Lodge, Masonic Lodge and several other civic organizations.

An ardent lover of the outdoors, Steve found solace and joy in fishing, where the quietude of nature was a balm to his soul. His passion for music, particularly the timeless tunes of the Beatles, filled his home with joy and melody. Cars were another of Steve’s interests, and he could often be found tinkering under the hood, a testament to his mechanical aptitude and appreciation for classic engineering.

Above all, Steve’s greatest pleasure was the time spent with his family. The love and laughter shared during family gatherings are memories that will be treasured and recounted for generations to come.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, October 8, 2024, at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home with James Shoaf officiating. Calling hours will be from 4 p.m. – 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be held at Bethel Baptist Cemetery with military honors conducted by the American Legion Post 233 Honor Guard.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Legion Post 233 through the funeral home.

Survivors include his wife, Beverly Ellison; son, Sean (Ashlee) Ellison of Greenwood, IN; step-daughter, Renee Wilkerson of Franklin, IN; brothers, Michael Ellison of Columbus, IN, Larry Ellison of Hartsville, TN; sister, Glenda (Ben) Johnson of Seymour, IN; grandchildren, Roman Ellison and Chancelor Medley.

Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Ruth Ellison.
