Police, administration investigate threat at Custer Baker

A 12-year-old student at Custer Baker Intermediate School made a threatening statement against the school earlier this afternoon.

The CBIS administration, school resource officers and the Franklin Police Department investigated the incident and are working with the student and their parents.

The juvenile was arrested and transported to the Johnson County Juvenile Detention Center.

CBIS administration will follow the guidelines outlined in the student handbook as they conclude their investigation.

”Student and staff safety remains our top priority, and we commend our students who immediately reported the statements made and our staff who acted swiftly and appropriately in this incident,” Franklin Schools sent to parents on Monday. “Please talk with your child about not using statements that infer causing harm to themselves or someone else, as we will continue to take all statements seriously.”

This is the fourth threat incident in recent weeks that has been reported on Franklin schools. A 15-year-old was arrested for making a threat on Franklin Community High School on Sept. 27. Earlier that same week another incident was forwarded to the prosecutor’s office, but the student was not arrested at the time.

A 13-year-old student in Edinburgh was arrested last week after making a threat towards the Edinburgh Middle School.

Other non-credible threats based on internet rumors have recently been reported against other school districts including Center Grove, Clark-Pleasant, Indian Creek and Edinburgh. Those incidents were part of a wave of school threats that swept across the country and impacted many school districts in Indiana.
