Burn ban rescinded again in Johnson County

The county-wide burn ban is off again after a recent notice of elevated fire danger was lifted.

The Johnson County Board of Commissioners lifted the temporary burn ban Wednesday after just two days being implemented. The commissioners originally issued the ban Monday after the National Weather Service issued a notice of elevated fire danger over the weekend because of drying surface vegetation and low humidity. There were also local reports of grass and field fires.

Johnson County Attorney Adam Gadberry said the ban was lifted because the National Weather Service notice was no longer in effect the subsequent days after the burn ban was implemented.

This is the second time the commissioners have rescinded the burn ban recently.

Gadberry said the county will continue to monitor weather conditions and there could be another burn ban issued if drought conditions worsen.
