Franciscan awards nearly $450K in health grants

Nonprofit organizations across Indiana will receive a boost through $448,000 in funding from Franciscan Health’s Social Impact Partnership Program (SIPP) for community health improvement programs.

SIPP is a community health enrichment program that builds partnerships with nonprofit health and human service agencies providing services in at-risk communities served by Franciscan Health. The goal of the program is to foster long-term relationships with community providers to better address significant health issues among vulnerable populations.

Franciscan Health Social Impact Partnership Program Grant recipients:

American Foundation for Suicide Prevention; Archdiocese of Indianapolis; Burmese American Community Institute; Catholic Charities Indianapolis; Gleaners Food Bank; Hope for Tomorrow; Indiana Immunization Coalition; Interchurch Food Pantry of Johnson County; YMCA of Greater Indianapolis; Eclectic Soul VOICES Corp.; Churches in Mission; Youth First, Inc.; and Trinity Free Clinic.

Recipient organizations will collaborate with Franciscan’s Community Health Improvement team to ensure program effectiveness meets the organization’s stated goals.

Upcoming Franklin Chamber news

LAUNCH Johnson County, an entrepreneurial program in partnership with the Franklin Chamber and Franklin College, is offering a free workshop at 5 p.m. Tuesday.

Launch Into a Business Plan presentation will be led by SCORE volunteer John Ross. Participants will learn the importance of creating a business plan and how to craft a plan for business success. Registration is required at franklincoc.org/launch.

New store hosting grand opening in Edinburgh

Born United is opening a new Edinburgh location Friday, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Located at the Indiana Premium Outlets, 1622 NE Executive Drive, Ste. E30.

There will be prizes, giveaways and more. The store carries brands including Grunt Style, Nine Line, Howitzer, Relentless Betrayal, Savage Tactician, Black Rifle Coffee, Mucker Bucket, Tango Charlie Apparel, their own Born United Private Label and much more.

Sport Clips Haircuts launches scholarships

Sport Clips Haircuts has launched its annual “Help A Hero” campaign to raise $1.5 million through Nov. 16, in support of the VFW’s “Sport Clips Help A Hero Scholarship” program. The campaign funds scholarships for veterans and service members making the transition from military to civilian careers, with 100 percent of donations going toward education funding.

Through Veterans Day, donations to the program can be made at checkout when clients come in for a hair-care service. Donations can also be made online, or via a new, easier option to text “HEROVFW” to 53555. On Veterans Day, participating Sport Clips locations will also donate $2 from every paid haircut service and many will offer free haircuts to veterans and active-duty military.

Help A Hero scholarships provide up to $5,000 per semester to help cover tuition and fees. Veterans from all branches with a rank of E-5 and below are eligible, with funds sent directly to the educational institution of their choice. New Greenwood yoga studio opens

The community of Greenwood welcomed a new destination for physical, mental and emotional well-being with the grand opening of its latest yoga studio. The Hot Room official ribbon-cutting ceremony took place on Oct. 9, located at 3011 Meridian Meadows Road.

The Hot Room is more than just a yoga studio; it also offers cold therapy, with the use of state-of-the-art cold plunge tubs. Enjoy a hot yoga or Pilates class, rinse off and plunge 50 degrees below. The studio also offers massage therapy as an essential component of holistic wellness.

Homes sales increase in Johnson County

September was an active residential real estate market in Johnson County, with home sales increasing and inventory expanding, according to F.C. Tucker.

In Johnson County:

  • Pended home sales increased 28.4 % compared to this time last year.
  • Available housing inventory increased 46.1 % compared to September 2023.
  • Year-to-date 2024 home sale prices increased 6.8 % to an average price of $360,071.
