The Indian Creek High School Drama Department practices for its upcoming fall production of the classic mystery-comedy "Clue" on Friday.

For its fall production, the Indian Creek High School Drama Department will take an audience through a rendition of a classic board game and film.

The production of “Clue” will feature some of the same dialogue and classic characters like Professor Plum, Colonel Mustard, Mrs. Peacock, and more. Four different shows will run: 7 p.m. Thursday, 2 and 7 p.m. Saturday and a final show at 2 p.m. Sunday.

Tickets can be purchased online at indiancreekathletics.com/Tickets or at the door of the Performing Arts Center of Indian Creek High School in Trafalgar.

“Clue” is a classic “whodunit” mystery of trying to figure out who the killer is, said Lauren Atwood, co-director of the production and the performing arts center. Several characters happen to be at the wrong place at the wrong time, or maybe in the right place at the right time so the audience truly doesn’t know who did it, Atwood said.

Audiences will be taken on a suspenseful journey filled with twists, turns and laughs as they follow a group of characters who must solve a murder, or two, in a mysterious mansion.

There was so much interest in the production that it will feature two casts — Blue and Red — who will perform on different dates. About 55 students will have their hands on the production in one way or another, Atwood said.

Each cast will follow the same script, but the actors interpret their characters differently so audience members may see some differences in the shows.

Students have been practicing for the performance since the end of August, Atwood said.

“I think that it is the perfect blend of nostalgia and the chaotic comedic,” Atwood said. “Although it is a murder mystery, whodunit, it still has that feel-good fun to it that we expect.”

Senior Emma Clark, who plays Mrs. Peacock said the process has been fun.

“Definitely takes a lot of blood, sweat and tears to get to the actual shows,” Clark said.

Senior Emily Hogue said if someone enjoys the board game, they will definitely enjoy the production. Her costar Sean Curry, another senior, said that he personally enjoys playing the character who exposes everyone at the end.

“Clue” also marks the second play performed at the new performing arts center, and the first where they have gotten to practice and perform the production from start to finish in the new space. Last year, they performed “A Christmas Carol,” but only had a couple of days to practice in the new space before production.

The new performing arts center opened up opportunities for more creativity, Curry said.. For example, new technology gives the production much more of a professional feel, Curry said

“Clue” also marks the last production for Atwood as a director and 11 seniors. Carter Waddle, the co-director of both the play and of the performing arts center, will take over as director fully and lead productions after “Clue” finishes its run. Waddle had been in Atwood’s first production at Indian Creek when he was a student in 2018, Atwood said.

Having a former student come back to work with the performing arts program says a lot about the success of it, Atwood said.

It is also cool to see all of the growth that Indian Creek has had in the last few years, especially with the growth of the performing arts center. It highlights the close-knit community and the love they have for it, she said.
