UPDATE: One dead in Greenwood apartment fire

UPDATE: 8:10 p.m. Tuesday

One person has died in a fire at a Greenwood apartment complex.

Greenwood firefighters were called to the 400 Southbridge Drive in the Cambridge Square Apartments complex for a report of a structure fire around 4:47 p.m. Tuesday. The 911 caller, a visitor to the apartment, advised that the hallway was full of smoke and that they could not reach the occupant. Within two minutes of receiving the call, Johnson County 911 updated the run to a structure fire with entrapment, according to a Greenwood Fire Department news release.

Greenwood Fire’s Squad 91 arrived first on scene to find a single-story, multi-family dwelling with no signs of fire from two sides of the building. Squad 91 reported that some of the building’s occupants had evacuated, the news release says.

During the search and investigation, firefighters located a person in the apartment where the fire was reported. The person was transported to Sidney & Lois Eskenazi Hospital in Indianapolis, where they were pronounced deceased by hospital staff, according to the news release.

Greenwood Fire is conducting an investigation into the cause of the fire and is being assisted by the Greenwood Police Department and the Indiana State Fire Marshal’s Office, the news release says.
