Women’s soccer blanks Spartans

Franklin College held Manchester without a shot on goal, pulling away for a 3-0 home win on Wednesday. Maddison Claybrooke, Jaiden Baker and Sydney Lovett each scored a goal for the Grizzlies (5-7-2, 4-3 HCAC).

Men’s soccer ties Manchester

Ian Rowe stopped five shots, including one in the final two minutes, to help Franklin College preserve a 0-0 draw at Manchester. The Grizzlies (0-13-3, 0-5-2 HCAC) kept even despite a 14-8 deficit in total shots.

Volleyball defeated in four

Despite the 1,000th career assist from sophomore Brionna Linkel, Franklin College suffered a 17-25, 25-23, 25-20, 25-19 loss at Berea. Kaitlyn Lavy had 15 kills and McKenzie Schroeder 14 for the Grizzlies (9-15, 0-4 HCAC), who also got 20 digs from Campbell Clark and five blocks from Trinity Schroeder..

Shepherd falls behind Q-Series pack

After a strong start, playing her first seven holes in 2 under par, Center Grove grad Erica Shepherd hit some potholes during her second round of LPGA Q-Series play in Venice, Florida on Wednesday, finishing with a 2-over 74. Shepherd bogeyed the par-4 eighth hole and the par-3 11th, then went double bogey-bogey on 13 and 14 to go to plus-3 for the day before getting one shot back with a birdie on 16.

Shepherd is now tied for 71st in the 194-player field at the midway point. The top 35 players plus ties after Friday will advance to the final 1stage of the Q-Series in December.
