Burn ban issued again for Johnson County

A burn ban is once again in effect in Johnson County.

The Johnson County Board of Commissioners reinstated a county-wide burn ban that will last for seven days through midnight Oct. 30. It is the latest update in a slew of burn bans the county has implemented and rescinded since September.

Prohibited activities during the ban include open burning of any kind using wood or any other combustible matter, open burning of any kind of debris such as timber, vegetation, building construction waste and fireworks subject to Indiana Code.

Cooking grills fueled by charcoal briquettes or propane gas are permitted but charcoal from permitted grills should not be removed until the charcoal has been thoroughly extinguished.

The burn ban can be extended by a two-thirds vote of the commissioners. This burn ban may also be enforced by any sworn law enforcement officer when available.

As of Thursday, Johnson County is one of 36 counties with a burn ban in place, according to the Indiana Department of Homeland Security.
