Franklin Chamber to host pitch contest

The public is invited to attend the Fall Pitch competition for LAUNCH Johnson County, held on Oct. 29 at 6 p.m. at Franklin College’s Custer Theatre.

The program is a collaboration with the Franklin Chamber, Franklin College and communities in Johnson County and is designed to support entrepreneurial efforts in the area. The group has received 13 applications and has narrowed these down to six startups who would like to launch a business in Johnson County.

These six entrepreneurs will present their idea to a panel of three local “celebrity” judges. The panel of judges consists of Lauren Casey Bemis, Bryan Epperson and Amy Richardson. The judges will grant one of these startups $10,000 for their business. Registrations are appreciated at franklincoc.org/launch.

Franciscan offering lung scan deal

Franciscan Health is offering $49 self-pay lung scans during the week of Nov. 4 in honor of Lung Cancer Awareness Month. Lung scans are simple, non-invasive computer tomography (CT) screenings that use a minimal amount of radiation.

To qualify for a lung scan, patients must be over the age of 50, have smoked an average of at least one pack of cigarettes per day for 20 years and have no signs or symptoms of lung cancer.

Scans are available Nov. 4-8 at Franciscan Health locations in Indianapolis, Greenwood, Mooresville and Plainfield. Select locations will offer scans on Nov. 9. Hours vary by location and appointments must be made in advance by phone.
