GREENWOOD
Marvin Duane Baker, 84, and lifelong resident of the Bluff Creek Community of White River Township, Greenwood, Indiana passed away Friday, October 18, 2024, at his residence surrounded by his loving family.
He was born December 18, 1939, at the family residence in Bluff Creek to Arnold “Camel” Baker and Nora (Matz) Baker. He married Kathryn “Kathy” Marie (Woerdeman) Baker on February 11, 1961, at Bluff Creek Christian Church, she survives.
Marvin was a 1958 graduate of Center Grove High School.
He retired as a supervisor from Naval Avionics in Indianapolis, IN after thirty-five years of service. Marvin later had worked at Walker’s Hatchery in Greenwood, IN for twenty-five years.
He was a lifelong member of Bluff Creek Christian Church where he had served as an elder and deacon. Marvin also had served for many years as President of the Bluff Creek Cemetery Association.
Survivors include his wife Kathryn “Kathy” Marie (Woerdeman) Baker of Greenwood, IN, his children Monica Wojciehowski (Stan) of St. Louis, MO, Cheryl Baker of Greenwood, IN, Cynthia Doninger (Jerry) of Indianapolis, IN and Melanie Inch (Frank) of Greenwood, IN, Brent Baker (Lisa) of Indianapolis, IN, his daughter-in-law Gabriele Baker of Stuttgart, Germany, twelve grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild and a sister Alberta Kenworthy of Valparaiso, IN, several nieces, nephews, great- nieces and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sons Bret A. Baker and Bart A. Baker, brothers Wilbur Baker, Robert Baker, Maurice Baker and Herb Baker.
Retired Lieutenant Colonel James Girdley and Pastor Jeremy Towne will conduct a service on Thursday, October 31, 2024, at 10:30AM at Swartz Family Community Mortuary and Memorial Center, 300 South U.S. 31 (Morton Street) in Franklin, IN and will be live-streamed at www.swartzmortuary.com/obituary/marvinbaker. Friends may call Wednesday, October 30, 2024, from 3PM until 8PM at the mortuary. Burial will be at Bluff Creek Cemetery in Greenwood, IN.
