Mary Nola Hill

SHELBYVILLE

Mary Nola Hill, 94, of Shelbyville, passed away Saturday, April 30, 2016, at Major Hospital.

She was born Jan. 31, 1922, to Ben W. Mitchell and Ethel M. (Inman) Mitchell in Clay City. She married Warren Meredith Hill on March 3, 1955, and he preceded her in death March 26, 2004.

Survivors include her daughter, Tyna Smith of Shelbyville; three siblings, Max Mitchell of Carthage, Helen Mays of Shelbyville and Howard Mitchell and wife, Catherine of Edinburgh; three grandchildren, Scott Smith and wife, Michelle, Dustin Smith and wife, Leann and Tyler Smith and wife, Angela, all of Shelbyville; and two great-grandchildren, Morgan Smith and Mitchell Smith.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers, Royden, Glen and Adrian Mitchell; and sisters, Inez Weaver and Thelma Bullock.

Mrs. Hill was a lifetime resident of the area.

She graduated from Boggstown High School

She was self-employed with Meredith Hill Auction Center for many years. She and her husband owned and operated the grocery store in Marietta for several years prior to the auction center.

Mrs. Hill attended First Church of the Nazarene.

Mary and her husband were involved in the harness racing circuit for several years.

As a young girl she enjoyed working on the farm with her father and often spoke of it.

She enjoyed her stay at Walker House and all of the staff and residents who made the final years of her life enjoyable.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday at Glenn E. George & Son Funeral Home, 437 Amos Road, Shelbyville. Funeral services will follow at 1 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with Pastor Steve Bohall officiating. Burial will be at Forest Hill Cemetery in Shelbyville.

Memorial contributions may be given to the Alzheimer’s Association in care of the funeral home.
