County unemployment rate down from past year

<p>Johnson County had one of the lowest unemployment numbers statewide in February at nearly one percentage point below the Hoosier average.</p>
<p>Less than 3,500 residents, or 4.5 percent of the population, are unemployed in Johnson County, according to the Indiana Department of Workplace Development. A report from the department said the Hoosier unemployment rate average for February was 5.4 percent, or about 180,000 people.</p>
<p>Johnson County’s labor force has grown since February 2015, when the unemployment rate was 4.7 percent. More than 74,000 residents were employed as of last month, according to the Indiana Department of Workforce Development.</p>
<p>Statewide, more than 3.1 million are employed out of the 3.3 million people in the workforce, according to the state.</p>
<p>The majority of central Indiana counties, including Marion, Boone, Hamilton, Hendricks and Johnson counties, have unemployment rates below the state average.</p>
