Homer Travelstead

INDIANAPOLIS

Mr. Homer Travelstead, Jr., 87, passed away on May 2, 2021. He was born in Terre Haute, Indiana on May 9, 1933 to Homer and Bess (Cooke) Travelstead. He married Julia Ruth (Thompson) Travelstead on June 12, 1966 at Danville Christian Church in Danville, Indiana.

He was a graduate of Gerstmeyer High School in 1952 and Indiana State Teachers’ College with a Masters degree in 1961 and had extended study at Butler University. An Air Force veteran, he retired from Emmerich Manual High School in 1995. He was a staunch St. Louis Cardinals supporter and an avid bicyclist having logged over 40,000 miles in his retirement years. Homer was a member of the Greenwood Christian Church.

He is survived by his wife, Julia, along with several nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Charles Travelstead and Jerry Travelstead; his sisters, Dorothy Keidel, Ruby Cartwright, Mabel Travelstead, Mary Sue McClara and Elizabeth Reynolds.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 am, Friday, May 7, 2021 at Forest Lawn Funeral Home, 1977 South State Road 135, Greenwood, with Pastor Shan Rutherford officiating. Burial will follow in the Veterans section at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens adjacent the funeral home.

Calling will be from 4:00 until 8:00 pm, Thursday, May 6, 2021 at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be offered to the Greenwood Christian Church.
