Semi hits railroad trestle in Center Grove area

A railroad company was called to check if a trestle bridge in the Center Grove area would need repairs after a semi struck an overpass Tuesday morning.

A semi struck the railroad crossing overhead of Fairview Road, just west of Leisure Lane, at 6:42 a.m. Fairview Road was closed while debris was cleaned up, but reopened about an hour later, according to the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office.

The semi, driven by Erick T. Peagler, 43, of Indianapolis, was heading east on Fairview Road when it struck the trestle bridge. The semi was 13-feet-6-inches tall, which is too high for that overpass, according to the sheriff’s office report.

The accident damaged the top of the semi, and the Indiana Railroad Co. was called to inspect the trestle bridge. Whether any damage was caused to the bridge or the tracks was not available by deadline Tuesday.
