Man rescued after being trapped under van

A Franklin man was rescued by deputies after becoming trapped underneath a van Friday morning.

Donald Lawlis, 77, was underneath the van when the vehicle fell off some of the wooden blocks that were holding it up around 10:20 a.m. at a house on State Road 144. He was conscious, but in severe pain, according to a Johnson County Sheriff’s Office report.

Deputies were able to use a jack to lift the front bumper and pull Lawlis out.

Lawlis was taken to Methodist Hospital at Indiana University Health in Indianapolis, where he was treated and released Saturday, according to a hospital spokesperson.
