A Center Grove area man lost about $5,000 in a sweepstakes scam.
The resident initially was told he needed to send $400 after he won $750,000 and a new car. He has continued to send money, typically in amounts between $100 and $400, since then, according to the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office report.
Family members reported the scam to the sheriff’s office. The man told deputies he knew it was a scam, but that he was investigating to try to find out who the scammers are, the report said.
Family members were able to convince him to stop sending money, and let police take over the investigation, the report said.
