Melvin H. Smith, 80, of Freetown, passed away on Thursday, October 11, 2018 at 1:38p.m. at his residence.
</p>
<p>
Born on January 9, 1938 in Columbus the son of Charles and Evelina Wilkerson Smith.
</p>
<p>
On April 11, 1981 he married Carolyn S. Deubner.
</p>
<p>
Mr. Smith started out as a mechanic at Miller’s Bowling Alley, then went on to work at Bulldog Lanes, and lastly at Hi-way Lanes in Franklin where he worked many years doing what he loved. He was an avid bowler and had won many trophies, awards and accomplished an 800 ring. He enjoyed spending time with his family, the outdoors, mowing, working on cars and enjoyed working side by side with his wife for many years at Hi-way Lanes. Previously he attended Ohio Chapel Church and was a member of the Columbus Corvette Club.

In keeping with Mr. Smith’s wishes cremation will take place and there will be no services at this time. Arrangements were entrusted to Barkes, Weaver, &amp; Glick Funeral Home. Online condolences and special memories may be shared with the Smith family at barkesweaverglick.com.

Survivors include his wife of 37 years; Children, Charles "Chuck" A. (Tammy) Smith of Columbus, Melanie Anne DeBord of North Vernon, and Jennifer Dawn Hendrickson of Jennings County; six grandchildren; several great grandchildren; and a half brother, Charles Smith of Jennings County.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Smith and Evelina Wilkerson Smith Arthur; Son, Jeffery Dana Smith; Daughter-in-law, Penny Smith; and a son-in-law, Dwight DeBord.
</p>
