Ruth Marie (Carstens) Heminger, 69, passed away May 11, 2021, in Franklin with her husband and daughters at her side.

Ruth was born on May 16, 1951, in Evanston, IL to Richard (Dick) and Virginia Carstens. She married Noel Heminger on Dec.30th, 1972. She is survived by her husband, her daughters Allyson Sever (Mike Sever), Stephanie Potter (Sam Potter), and Jill Bland (Craig Bland), and her brothers Rick Carstens, Tom Carstens, and Tim Carstens.

She adored her 8 grandchildren (Virginia Sever, J.D. Sever, Addy Sever, Will Potter, Aubree Potter, Carsten Bland, Noelle Bland, and Cooper Bland) along with many nieces and nephews that also held a special place in her heart.

Besides her family, she had other children that she loved dearly: her students and athletes that she taught, coached, and mentored during her time as a teacher at Center Grove High School and Franklin Community School Corporation.

For the past few years, she has been cared for by some wonderful people at Compass Park that also became her extended family. Her love for them was apparent.

Being a math teacher, Ruth loved numbers. And the number of roles she played was exponential. She was a great wife, mother, daughter, grandmother, sister, aunt, teacher, coach, and friend. However, the number of lives she impacted was even greater.

Ruth was diagnosed with a rare form of frontotemporal dementia (FTD) called Primary Progressive Aphasia in 2011. She was a brave warrior during the battle of this disease and an advocate for finding cures and advancing research.

Ruth was a devout Christian and known for her beautiful smile, contagious laugh, and her passion for football and sports. She will be missed by all who knew her.
