Lancers rally past Trinity

MacKenzie Bieker hit a three-run homer in the sixth inning and Kaitlyn Bailey walked it off by plating Morgan Calhoun with a sacrifice fly in the seventh as Edinburgh rallied for a 6-5 home win over Trinity Lutheran on Tuesday. Gracie Crawhorn also hit a two-run shot for the Lancers (12-10).

Warriors upend Mooresville

Whiteland knocked Class 4A No. 3 Mooresville from the ranks of the unbeaten with a 12-8 road triumph. Jordan Smith and Halle Nett each hit a home run for the Warriors (14-8, 9-4 Mid-State), while Macy Cornelius went 4 for 5 with a pair of runs scored.

Trojans no-hit Red Devils

Abbi Patton, Gracie Henson and Riley Henson combined on a no-hitter as Center Grove cruised to a 14-0 win over Pike. Ava Mardis led the way offensively for the Trojans (19-7, 7-0 MIC) with a home run and four RBIs, while Payton Shimansky drove in three runs and Riley Janda went 3 for 3 and scored twice.

Baseball

Grizzly Cubs blank Hawks

A two-run home run from Logen Devenport in the ninth inning provided the lone offense of the day and Max Clark and Jackson Klem combined on a no-hitter as Franklin edged Decatur Central, 2-0, on Tuesday. Clark struck out 15 in his seven innings of work for the Grizzly Cubs (18-7, 11-2 Mid-State).

Trojans steamroll Pike

Zach Ferguson went 3 for 4 with a home run and three RBIs to help lead Center Grove to a 13-2 victory over Pike. Aiden Murphy was the winning pitcher for the Class 4A No. 3 Trojans (23-3, 12-1 MIC).

Late Monday night, the Trojans needed 13 innings to get past Zionsville, 3-2, at Grand Park in Westfield.

Warriors stun Pioneers

Drew Helton had two hits and two RBIs, and pitchers Caden Wilburn and Dylan Gross teamed to allow just four hits as Whiteland pulled out a 4-2 victory at Mooresville to improve to 7-12 overall and 5-7 in the Mid-State Conference.

Woodmen knock off Quakers

A seven-run fourth inning fueled Greenwood to an 8-3 home win over Plainfield. Josh Miller had three hits for the Woodmen (3-17, 2-11 Mid-State), while Landen Smith, Chad Prentice and Matthew Jobe each knocked in a pair of runs in support of winning pitcher Zak Rasener, who went the distance.

Lancers fall to Artesians

Max Blandford was the medalist with a round of 36, but Edinburgh came out on the losing end of a 191-202 score against Martinsville.

Warriors beaten by Golden Bears

Whiteland lost to Shelbyville at The Legends despite a 38 from medalist Will Davis.

Trojans top Mooresville

Brady Schier’s 35 helped lead Center Grove’s White team to a 153-179 win over Mooresville. Austin Shelley and Carson Poe each shot a 39 for the Trojans, followed by Stephen Fall with a 40.

Local athletes sign with colleges

A pair of seniors from Johnson County signed letters of intent to continue their athletic careers at the collegiate level.

Indian Creek boys basketball standout Ethan Williams will play this coming winter at Indiana University South Bend. Greenwood Christian’s John Amador, an All-County selection in boys soccer, signed with Hannibal-LaGrange University in Missouri.
