College notebook: Snyder earns conference honors

Concordia (Wisconsin) men’s tennis player Logan Snyder has been named the player of the year for the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference. The junior, a Franklin product, was honored as an all-NACC singles player for the second time in his career.

Franklin

Taylor men’s golfer Javan Johnson helped lead the Trojans into sixth place at the midpoint of the 30-team NAIA national championship in Silvis, Illinois. Johnson had a 72 in the first round and shot 70 the second as Taylor was 15 shots out of first heading into the final two rounds.

Jacob Heuchan singled to drive in a run as Franklin College baseball opened the HCAC tournament with a 12-7 defeat of Mount St. Joseph. He had a double and a pair of singles in the second game, an 11-6 win over the Lions.

Center Grove

Senior Ethan Shepherd helped Indiana men’s golf place ninth at the NCAA regional tournament in Tallahassee, Florida. Shepherd carded a three-round total of 224 (+8) to tie for 56th place individually.

Tye Thixton had an RBI double for Indiana Wesleyan as it opened play in the NAIA baseball tournament with a 2-1 win over Columbia (Missouri). Wildcats junior Nick Coy finished with two hits in IWU’s 14-6 loss to top-seeded Oklahoma Wesleyan. Both had two hits, including a double for Coy, in an 11-6 loss to Indiana Tech in the elimination game.

Franklin College baseball player Jackson Young scored a run as the team downed Mount St. Joseph, 12-7, in the Grizzlies’ first game of the HCAC tournament. The freshman singled, scored a run and pitched the final inning in the second game against the Lions, an 11-6 victory.

Northwestern softball player Jordyn Rudd doubled and had two singles in a 5-4 home loss to Nebraska. The Wildcats won the other three games, with Rudd driving in three runs and scoring two in the series.

Wisconsin softball pitcher Abby Herbst took the loss in the Badgers’ 3-1 home loss to Purdue. In the first game of the series, a 5-0 Wisconsin victory, Herbst singled and drove in a run.

Whiteland

Indiana Wesleyan softball pitcher Danielle Munn got the start against Campbellsville, allowing a hit and a run in three innings as the Wildcats’ season came to a close with an 11-3 loss in the first round of the NAIA World Series.

Addison Csikos singled twice and scored a run as Franklin College softball defeated Anderson, 10-6, in the HCAC tournament. Pitcher Delanie Gourley worked the final two innings of an elimination-game loss to Transylvania, giving up three hits and two runs.

Senior Branton Sanders helped Anderson baseball win two games against Hanover at the HCAC tournament, delivering a triple and single and scoring two runs.

Franklin College pitcher Tyler Wick worked two innings of middle relief, allowing two hits and two runs, as the Grizzlies downed Mount St. Joseph, 11-6, at the HCAC baseball tournament.

Indian Creek

Purdue softball won three of four games in a series against Wisconsin. Junior Kasey Wilhoit produced a total of two doubles and a single for the Boilermakers.

Greenwood

Taylor sophomore T.J. Bass earned honorable mention status on the All-Crossroads League baseball team after leading the team with a .325 batting average and belting nine home runs, 13 doubles and a team-leading 50 RBIs.

Greenwood Christian

Senior pitcher Krae Sparks got the start for Franklin College in its first game of the HCAC baseball tournament. Sparks allowed four hits in four innings, but didn’t pick up the decision in the Grizzlies’ 12-7 triumph over Mt. St. Joseph.

Roncalli

Indiana freshman Amber Linton, who resides in Franklin, pitched the final 1 2/3 innings, striking out two and not allowing a hit, in the Hoosiers’ 5-0 loss to Maryland.
