Man loses $2,000 in scam

A Franklin man lost $2,000 in a jury duty scam, police said.

The resident called police on Monday and reported he had gotten a phone call on Friday from a man identifying himself as Deputy Davis with the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office. The caller told the man he had committed two misdemeanors by not showing up for jury duty, according to a Franklin Police Department report.

The resident then bought two gift cards for $1,000 total and read the numbers on the cards to the caller. When the caller told the man the numbers didn’t go through, the resident bought two more gift cards, for a total of $2,000, the report said.
