Local roundup – March 28

<h2>BASEBALL AND SOFTBALL</h2>
<h4><strong>Local contests wiped out</strong></h4>
The combination of rain and melting snow forced the postponement of all of Tuesday’s baseball and softball games involving county teams.

Center Grove’s softball game at Whiteland was postponed, as was Edinburgh’s home game against Columbus East. In baseball, Edinburgh’s game at Irvington Prep and Indian Creek’s trip to Lebanon also were pushed back. Makeup dates have not yet been set for any of those games.
<h2>BOYS VOLLEYBALL</h2>
<h4><strong>Rebels win conference title</strong></h4>
Roncalli swept Brebeuf on Monday night, 25-15, 25-14, 25-13, to clinch its second consecutive Circle City Conference championship.

Austin Hendricks had 13 digs for the Rebels, while Zach Straumins and Josh Byrne added nine and six kills, respectively.
<h2>Franklin College</h2>
<h4><strong>Baseball squad sweeps pair</strong></h4>
An extra-inning rally allowed Franklin to cap off a doubleheader sweep of Union (N.Y.) College on Tuesday afternoon in Auburndale, Florida.

After Frank Podkul’s three-run double in the bottom of the fifth lifted the Grizzlies to an 8-3 victory in the opener, the second game between the two clubs went to extra innings. But Franklin (14-1) exploded for six runs in the eighth, getting RBI singles from Podkul and Jarrod Smith while pulling away for an 8-2 triumph.
<h4><strong>Softball team splits doubleheader</strong></h4>
Franklin College came back from an 11-day layoff to earn a split of a twinbill at North Central College in Illinois on Tuesday.

Alexis Tarver had three hits and Natalie Weber drove in three runs for the Grizzlies (12-2), who won the opener 8-5 before being handed a 2-1 defeat on the back end of the day.

Olivia Paszek earned the win in Game 1, improving to 7-0 on the year.
