Charles (Charlie) William Kitchen, 93, of Franklin, IN passed away Tuesday, April 18, 2018, at Christina Place in Franklin. He was born November 22, 1924 in Toledo, Ohio to Dr. William Clark Kitchen and Eva M. Burch Kitchen. He married Martha Brooner Kitchen on November 6, 1953, in Dale, Indiana. She proceded him in death on October 9, 2014.
</p>
<p>
Charlie served in World War II after graduating from Tipton High School, eventually serving in the rank of Corporal as a Combat Engineer with Battalion following Patton’s Third Army, including participation in the Battle of the Bulge.
</p>
<p>
Charlie was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Franklin and the Franklin Kiwanis Club. He graduated from Franklin College in 1949 with a sociology degree and a minor in history. He went on to work for the Finance Center, U.S. Army in Indianapolis as a travel pay specialist. He retired from this job in 1985 and then went on to work for the First Baptist Church in Franklin until 2005.

He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, brother Weir Joseph Kitchen, uncles, Joseph Weir Kitchen and Egbert C. Kitchen, aunt, Mary Maud Kitchen; and niece, Elizabeth Brown.
</p>
<p>
He is survived by his children: Lisa Kitchen Butt (Michael) of Indianapolis, Jack R. Kitchen of Dale, IN, and Amy J. Kitchen of Franklin. He is also survived by nephews: Edward J. Kitchen and William G. Kitchen and niece, Dixie Skaggs, several great-nieces and nephews, as well his "Angel on Earth," friend Mary Beth Piland.

<p>
Charlie was the epitome of gentleman, father, husband, and friend. He was the light of his family. Charlie was an avid reader, classic car enthusiast, promoter of Franklin and Johnson County, and he was particularly adept at keeping current with local and national events, sports and politics.
</p>
<p>
Friends and extended family will remember Charlie as a warm, welcoming, all-encompassing man who was always ready to share a positive story or one of many hundreds of jokes.
</p>
<p>

Rev. Homer Ford will conduct a celebration of Charlie’s life on Saturday, April 21st at 12:00 p.m. at Flinn and Maguire Funeral Home, 2898 North Morton Street, (U.S. 31 North) in Franklin. Friends may call on Friday, April 20th from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and on Saturday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home. Burial will be at Greenlawn Cemetery in Franklin, Indiana.
