<p><strong>Heck ties for 46th at Otter Creek</strong></p>
<p>Center Grove junior Alex Heck shot a final-round 77 and finished in a tie for 46th place at the AJGA Circle K Junior Championship, which concluded Thursday at Otter Creek.</p>
<p>Heck, who finished at 226 (10 over par) for the tournament, was able to make the cut by shooting an even-par 72 in Wednesday’s second round. Trojan teammate Peyton Short had missed the cut at 80-74-154.</p>
<p>Matt Camel of Greenwich, Connecticut, finished at 19 under par to win by 10 strokes.</p>

<p><strong>Franklin pair helps AAU team place second</strong></p>
<p>Scarlett Kimbrell and Lauren Klem of Franklin recently helped the Indiana Flight 2024 team to a second-place finish in the sixth-grade division at the AAU D1 Nationals in Rockford, Illinois.</p>
<p>The team won six consecutive games, including a 42-39 semifinal victory over Essence Xtreme Nike, before falling to BTR of Oklahoma in the championship game.</p>
<p>It was the fourth top-three national finish for the team in the last five years.</p>

<p><strong>Grizzlies name new softball coach</strong></p>
<p>Following the retirement of longtime skipper Butch Zike, Brad Jones was named as the new softball coach at Franklin College this week.</p>
<p>Jones, a 1984 Franklin College graduate, is the business office manager at the school. He previously served as an assistant men’s basketball coach for the Grizzlies from 1990 to 1996.</p>
<p>"I’m excited to get back into coaching at the college level and to work with these young women," Jones said in a statement. "It’s exciting to join a program that has grown into a perennial contender in the HCAC and one that is coming off its first NCAA tournament appearance. I’m familiar with the players in the program, and I’m looking forward to helping them all develop athletically and academically."</p>
<p>Jones was a four-year letterman for the Grizzlies in baseball and basketball. He then played professional basketball in Australia and later came home to win six national softball championships, earning a spot in the Indiana ASA Hall of Fame in 2014.</p>
<p>In addition to his roles at Franklin College, Jones serves on the boards of Franklin Little League, Franklin Youth Baseball and the Boys and Girls Club of Franklin.</p>
