12 years later, police still searching for killer

Twelve years after a gruesome double murder in Franklin, police know someone has the answers that will help them solve the case.
<h4><strong>About the case</strong></h4>
On July 24, 2006, Blake Dickus, 10, and Chynna Dickus, 26, were murdered in a home in the Branigin Woods neighborhood.

Both had been stabbed multiple times, and Blake died of blunt force trauma to the head and asphyxia.

About the same time, five homes were broken into within a half-mile of the home where Chynna and Blake Dickus were murdered.

The break-ins all happened during the daytime on weekdays, between June 2006 to July 2007. Each home was ransacked, refrigerator doors were left open or had been gone through, and small items — such as cash, coins, jewelry, food or drinks — were taken.

And in each one, a screen in the home was cut in a T shape, allowing someone to easily get into the home through a window.

Police have continued investigating that as a possible angle in the Dickus murders.
<h4><strong>An active investigation</strong></h4>
Franklin police have continued investigating the case, and have received about eight to 10 tips a year, and investigate each one as far as they can, Franklin Police Det. Sgt. Scott Carter said.

But they know someone out there has the information they need that would solve the case, he said.

"Someone has told somebody. We want someone to come forward and tell us what they know so we can give this family some closure and some justice," Carter said.

The case has had a huge impact on the families of the victims, the communities and officers who have worked the case, Carter said.
<h4><strong>How you can help</strong></h4>
Every year, near the anniversary of the murders, police seek to drum up interest in the case, hoping to get new tips from the public.

"We just want to keep this fresh, try to keep it out there," Carter said.

Investigators want people to think back to anything they can remember that might help, he said.

"Anything anybody knows, even if it’s rumors, we still want to look at it," Carter said.
