Royals blank Flashes for title

Keagan Rothrock struck out 17 and yielded just one hit as Class 4A No. 2 Roncalli shut out seventh-ranked Franklin Central, 5-0, in the championship game of the New Palestine Sectional on Thursday. The win marked the Royals’ first sectional title since 2015.

Courtney Keller homered and drove in two runs for Roncalli (27-2), which hosts Avon in regional play next Tuesday. Keller, Chloe Parks and Lyla Blackwell each had two hits against the Flashes.

Franklin wins three-way match

No. 16 Franklin defeated Greenwood and Indian Creek in match play at The Legends on Thursday, racking up 29 points to 8.5 apiece for the Woodmen and Braves. Quin Edwards led the Grizzly Cubs with a 67, followed by Damon Dickey (70) and Ian McCullough (79).
