College notebook: Conners clocks personal best

<p>Franklin College junior <strong>Blaine Conners</strong> placed 30th at the #JennaStrong Fall Classic in Wilmington, Ohio, with a personal-best time of 26 minutes, 8.8 seconds.</p><p>The former Franklin Community High School athlete now holds the eighth fastest 8-kilometer clocking in Grizzly men’s cross country history.</p><p><strong>FRANKLIN</strong></p><p><strong>Bianca Tisdale</strong> competed for Huntington at the #JennaStrong Fall Classic, finishing 126th individually in a time of 21:09.1.</p>[sc:text-divider text-divider-title="Story continues below gallery" ]<p>Junior middle blocker <strong>Abby Sewell</strong> finished with a team-high 12 kills and seven digs in Franklin College’s 3-0 sweep of Anderson in volleyball. She had three kills and six digs in a loss to Alma and five kills in a loss at Transylvania.</p><p>Freshman defensive lineman <strong>Manny Cheam</strong> had a tackle for Franklin College in its 42-34 road win over Mount St. Joseph.</p><p>Trine tight end <strong>Damon Munn</strong> had a catch in his squad’s 50-49 win at Olivet.</p><p><strong>INDIAN CREEK</strong></p><p>Trine cornerback <strong>James Starks</strong> had a career-high 10 tackles, including one for loss, in the Thunder’s 50-49 victory at Olivet.</p><p><strong>CENTER GROVE</strong></p><p>IUPUI senior golfer <strong>Austin Crowder</strong> erased a four-stroke deficit entering the final round to earn medalist honors at the Chatham Hills Collegiate tournament in Westfield. Crowder finished with a school-record 54-hole total of 68-69-68—205. Not far behind was Indiana sophomore <strong>Ethan Shepherd,</strong> who placed fourth with a 74-66-70—210.</p><p>Butler senior <strong>Zack Carrabine</strong> tied for 45th place at the Georgetown Invitational in Beallsville, Maryland, with a 54-hole score of 227.</p><p><strong>Sam Jean,</strong> a freshman at Cincinnati, helped the Bearcats secure third place out of 15 teams at the Jim Rivers Intercollegiate hosted by Louisiana Tech. Jean tied for 61st with a 36-hole score of 153.</p><p>Sophomore safety <strong>Connor Steeb</strong> led the University of Indianapolis football team with seven tackles in the Greyhounds’ 35-7 defeat of Quincy. His teammate, sophomore safety <strong>Blake Moran,</strong> added two tackles, while another soph, <strong>Clay Hadley,</strong> made his 18th consecutive start on the offensive line.</p><p>Franklin College receiver <strong>Joey Siderewicz</strong> made four receptions for 77 yards in the Grizzlies’ 42-34 victory at Mount St. Joseph.</p><p>Vanderbilt sophomore defensive lineman <strong>Cameron Tidd</strong> made three tackles in a 37-27 home loss to Florida.</p><p>Sophomore linebacker <strong>Bailey Bennett</strong> helped Marian’s football team score a 55-0 victory at Taylor with his 2.5 tackles for loss and three tackles overall. Former high school teammates <strong>Sam Bolin</strong> and <strong>Tyler Watson,</strong> safeties for Taylor, picked up four and three tackles, respectively.</p><p>Indiana State running back <strong>Titus McCoy</strong> carried the football six times for 24 yards in the Sycamores’ 29-26 loss to visiting Missouri State.</p><p><strong>Max Norris</strong> had three carries for eight yards in Western Illinois’ 34-7 home loss to North Dakota State. He also made two catches for 10 yards.</p><p>SIU-Edwardsville freshman outside hitter <strong>Ellen LeMasters</strong> finished with four kills, two service aces and a block in her team’s 3-0 volleyball loss to Jacksonville State.</p><p>Illinois State volleyball improved its record to 16-5 with wins over Loyola and Bradley. Senior middle blocker <strong>Ali Line</strong> totaled 23 kills and 11 digs in the two matches.</p><p>Junior setter <strong>Taylor Hammill</strong> produced 35 assists and six digs for Middle Tennessee in its 3-0 loss at Marshall.</p><p>Denver libero <strong>Macy Carrabine</strong> had three assists, a service ace and team-high nine digs in the Pioneers’ 3-0 shutout of Western Illinois. Her 29 digs, three assists and two service aces helped Denver win at Omaha in five sets.</p><p>Rose-Hulman junior runner <strong>Alexa Kovacs</strong> represented the Fightin’ Engineers at the Oberlin Invitational, placing 164th in a time of 25:41.</p><p><strong>GREENWOOD</strong></p><p>Franklin College sophomore cross country runner <strong>Krista Robinson</strong> finished second on the team and 161st overall at the #JennaStrong Fall Classic.</p><p>Hanover junior receiver <strong>Jackson Daugherty</strong> made three catches for a total of 24 yards in a 48-7 win over visiting Defiance. Daugherty also returned a punt for 33 yards.</p><p><strong>WHITELAND</strong></p><p>Anderson senior receiver <strong>Matt Luechtefeld</strong> had three catches for 21 yards in the Ravens’ 63-0 romp at Earlham.</p><p>Wabash sophomore linebacker <strong>Ryan Hahn</strong> had a tackle for the Little Giants football team in its 7-0 victory at Ohio Wesleyan.</p><p>Franklin College junior midfielder <strong>Jordan Thomas</strong> scored his team’s only goal in a 6-1 loss to Anderson.</p>
